Hello world!

Welcome to the Social Justice, Peace, and Development 2010 blog! Participants in this semester abroad program from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota will post to this blog to keep friends and family up-to-date on our experiences.

For now, we are in preparation mode. Planning itineraries, reviewing preparation material, reading, and packing for our upcoming orientation program and our impending departure for Bangalore, India.

About Jonathan Steinwand

I am the 2010 faculty leader of the Social Justice, Peace, and Development Semester in India. I also led the program in 2008. As Professor of English, I teach a wide range of composition, literature, and literary theory courses at Concordia College. I specialize in three areas: 1) the history and theory of criticism, including contemporary trends, 2) the long 18th Century of British Literature from Paradise Lost to Frankenstein, and 3) contemporary post-colonial literature--especially of South Africa, the Pacific Islands, and South Asia. In my current research I am working on a book in which I trace the paralell critiques of modernity offered in the Gothic, ecocriticism, and post-colonial literature. I am married to a mortgage banker and have a 14-year-old son who likes to play tennis and a 12-year-old daughter who likes to play soccer.
